Camp Kunene

Ekoto Camp

Comfort in Nature.

Intro

Set within the pristine landscapes of the Kunene Region, Ekoto features six fully equipped self-catering chalets designed for comfort and connection with nature. Guests can also enjoy a communal kitchen, outdoor BBQ area, and open fireplace — perfect for sharing stories under the African sky. A small shop offers local delicacies, refreshing drinks, and distinctive Ekoto merchandise to take a piece of the experience home.

Background

Ekoto Self-Catering Camp is a unique joint venture between the Orupupa Conservancy, Global Conserve, and private investors. The camp provides the Conservancy with much-needed income beyond traditional livestock farming, supporting sustainable development for the local community while offering guests an authentic Namibian experience.

Activities

Explore the Forgotten Valley on guided hikes. Refresh in the natural pool at the foot of Tufa Rock — home to small but assertive snapping turtles. Climb the steep trail from camp to a 300 m-elevation viewpoint over the valley. Relax by the pool, browse the book exchange, play games at reception.

Guests in the animal’s home

The valley is home to highland elephants, giraffes, impalas, zebra, leopards, baboons, kudus, and a fascinating array of bird species. Move slowly, observe quietly, and respect the natural behaviour of wildlife.

The highland elephants of Kaokoveld

In this remote corner of north-west Namibia, a remarkable population of highland elephants resides. Unlike their savanna cousins, they have adapted to steep, rocky slopes and can climb seemingly impossible mountain terrain.
