The NamibRand Family Hideout is remotely situated in south-western Namibia, on the stunning NamibRand Nature Reserve, one of Southern Africa’s largest private nature reserves. We offer self-catering accommodation in a Farmhouse plus three private and secluded campsites.

As the sole occupier of this charming and authentic farmhouse, you will be able to appreciate quality time spent alone with your family and friends. The Hideout is simply yet comfortably equipped for your essential needs, a solid and safe haven from the sometimes harsh desert conditions.
This is an atmospheric renovated old farmhouse. It has 3 bedrooms inside the house and one double bedroom in the outbuilding.
- An expansive shady stoep, a large newly-renovated kitchen with a gas stove and a solar-powered fridge/freezer, and a spacious lounge are features of the house.
- A free-standing fire place with a glass door has been installed in the lounge to provide warmth and atmosphere during the winter months. A small fire should be made with the wood provided.

Mosquito gauze is installed on all opening windows.

Water is pumped using a solar pump, from deep below the desert’s surface.

Solar lighting is provided at the campsites and in each room of the house, but no 220V power. A charging station is provided at the house and at Jupiter.

Wildlife
We are situated on the private NamibRand Nature Reserve, boasting a bird list of over 100 species. Fascinating desert creatures can be seen and experienced – barking geckos, lizards, beetles, etc.
Mammals to be seen are mainly Oryx and Springbok antelopes, Zebra, Ostrich, Bat-eared Foxes and a few Giraffe. Large flocks of Namaqua Sand Grouse are regular visitors to our waterholes.
Activities
Enjoy the spectacular views over the vast plains and ancient blue mountain ranges, or one of our activities into the glowing red dunes for a close encounter with the fascinating variety of Namib Desert fauna and flora.
The kids will love the dune-boarding and endless open spaces, or chasing after beetles and lizards scuttling over the sand dunes.
A small waterhole just 50m from the veranda attracts a myriad of birdlife as well as oryx, springbok, zebra, bat-eared fox, porcupines and other wildlife. Giraffe may also be seen, if you’re lucky!
The exceptional surroundings and clarity of the air provide endless opportunities for photography by day and star-gazing by night..

The NamibRand Family Hideout is about 5 hours’ drive south-west of Windhoek, 110 km south of Sossusvlei.
